WHAT IS HIGH CHOLESTEROL?

Cholesterol is a type of fat that is found in our blood. High cholesterol is the build up of cholesterol and plaque in our artiers.

There are 2 types of cholesterol

  • Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) or Bad cholesterol

  • High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) or Good Cholesterol


LDL is the unhealthy type of cholesterol, as too much of this can cause it to build up in our artieres.

HDL are a healthy type of cholesterol, as it actually aims to protect out artieries from being blocked.

RISK FACTORS FOR DEVELOPING HIGH CHOLESTEROL

Some risk factors for developing high cholesterol incude having a family history of high cholesterol, being overweight, lack of physical activity, and a high consumption of food high in saturated fats.
