WEIGHT MANAGEMENT - WEIGHT LOSS

Weight Management - weight loss: News

WHY DOES WEIGHT GAIN OCCUR?

There are many reasons as to why people gain unwated weight. It could be genetics, medical conditions but also food chocies.

When food is consumed it is converted into energy for the body to use. When there is an imbalance in energy, you are eating more then what is required for your body, this can result in unwanted weight gain. this is because that excess energy is converted and stored as fat.

HOW CAN A DIETITIAN HELP?

A dietitian can help! We can help you put various nutritional strategies into place to help you manage your weight and lose weight if this is your goal. Ultimately, we want to support you to reach your health goals but in a safe and supportive environment, clear from any judgement and negativity.

We can work together to:

  • Come up with food first strategies to help improve the overall quality of the foods you eat

  • Discuss portions and help decide how much your body needs

  • Guide you in the right direction and away from fad diets, detoxes and expensive fat burning supplements

  • Strategies to control hunger and cravings

  • Help you lose weight but still have a healthy relationship with food and avoiding any unnecessary food restrictions

  • Help you navigate Nutrition Information Panels to help you choose foods at the supermarket

  • Adopt Health at Every Size (HAES) or Non-Diet Approach principles to help you nourish and love your body and not the number on the scales

DO DIETS WORK?

Everyone is different and unfotunately what works for one person may not work for you.

Fad diets, detox's, fat burning suppments are not necessary and often do not work long term.

Often they are strict, have too many rules and are difficult to follow. You may loose weight initially, but when you stop the diet and go back to eating normal foods you may find that you gain weight (and sometimes more).

So ditch the diet metality! Learn to love and nourish your body with nourishing foods, gentle and regular movement you enjoy, change your mindset from punishemnt to love and weight loss might just occur.

Weight loss and wanting to improve your health is perfectly ok. whats not ok is doing it out of punishment and not out of love.
