Berry Smoothie Bowl

Smoothie bowls have officially taken over instagram! Promoted mainly by smoothie pages, beauty and lifestyle blogs! They look good and taste absolutely amazing! but what is the health with them anyway!!

Heres a few positives:

  • Great way to add in extra fruit (and veggies)

  • Full of antioxidants

  • Full of protein to keep you fuller for longer

  • Contain fibre and healthy fats

But by no means are they the only way to have a healthy diet! Some can contain a large amount of energy (or kilojoules) so for someone trying to lose weight it is not really necessary!

However, here is the smoothie bowl I made (and enjoy most weekends)!!

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cupsFrozen blueberries & strawberries

  • 1 banana

  • 1/2 - 1 cup light milk

  • 1/3 cup muesli

  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder

  • 1 handful walnuts & almonds (combined)

Methods

  1. Place frozen berries, milk and protein powder into blender and blitz until smooth.

  2. Pour into a bowl. Add muesli, banana and nuts

  3. Enjoy!

Tips:

Try to stay to low fat alternatives and add protein and fibre where you can to keep you satisfied to your next meal (After my first smoothie bowl I madeI was starving and felt like I needed to eat almost 20 minutes later!!)

You can do this by:

  • Adding protein powder

  • Adding nuts and seeds to provide protein, healthy fats and fibre

  • Add banana or other whole fruits to the top

  • Using a high fibre granola or muesli (look at the food labels for high fibre alternatives

  • Using low fat natural yoghurt for protein and probiotics

  • Use low fat milk and avoid coconut milks where possible (they contain extra energy and are much higher in saturated fats)

Here are a few smoothie bowls I have made in the past! All different ingredients but mostly different combinations of berries!

Enjoy xx
